The Pros And Cons OF Using A Wireless Charger

In today’s world where everyone is seeking convenience, wireless technology is typically altering the way we engage with our devices. Wireless chargers are just one of its examples which has truly freed our gadgets and devices from the constraints of cables and cords and has made it convenient for us to charge our devices effortlessly. Just imagine the simplicity and ease of setting your smartphones or tablets onto a charging pad without the hassle of the correct type of cable and the tension of wearing and tearing the cord. This convenience and ease have truly revolutionized our charging routines.

However, like any other technology, wireless charging too, has both advantages and disadvantages. So it is also critical to have a view of the pros and cons associated with wireless charging.

So, in this short blog, we will explore how wireless charging offers a smooth and convenient experience and also look at what challenges we may face while adopting this technology.

Benefits Of Using Wireless Charger

There are numerous benefits offered by the wireless charging method as compared to the traditional charging methods.

1.Convenience

The most worthy benefit of using a wireless charger is the convenience. The wireless charger eliminates the hassle of physical cables and connectors. You simply place your device on the charging pad and it will start charging your device.

2.Ease Of Use

Wireless chargers usually use a simple and easy-to-use design where you just need to place your device on the charging pad to get it charged. This feature makes wireless chargers quite user-friendly.

3.Multiple Device Charging Option

Most wireless chargers are designed in such a way to accommodate multiple devices at the same time. it is particularly beneficial if you have several devices with wireless charging capabilities i.e. smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, etc.

4.Reduced Wear And Tear

It usually happens with wired chargers that due to regular plugging and unplugging, leads to wear and tear on both the charging port of the device and the cable of the charger too. it also inflicts your pocket as you have to buy or replace these things regularly.

Wireless chargers simply reduce this risk of wearing and tearing and eventually prolong the lifespan of both, your charger as well as the charging port of your device.

5.Universal Compatibility

Many smart devices are adopting the Qi wireless charging standard and that is why wireless charging is becoming more popular and standardized. So, the same wireless charger can easily be used to charge your multiple devices.

6.“Trickle Charging”; Energy Efficient Means Of Charging

When your device is fully charged while using a wireless charger, it automatically shuts off and again tops off the charge when needed. This technology is known as “trickle charging” and is comparatively energy efficient.

In addition to this, it also prevents your device from overheating, so it is good for your device as well.

7.Travel Friendly

Wireless chargers are easy to carry around as you do not need to pack multiple charging cables. So it reduces the number of items you need to bring while traveling.

So, these are some of the basic advantages of using a wireless charger. Besides it, wireless chargers offer more safety to your device, have more aesthetic appeal, and are more durable and long-lasting as compared to their wired counterparts.

Problems Of Using Wireless Chargers

While it is convenient to use wireless chargers to charge your devices, there are also some specific setbacks or disadvantages of using them that you should also consider.

1.Not able to use your device

It is certainly the most disadvantageous aspect of the wireless charging method that you cannot use your device while it is being charged. You have to place the device on the charging pad continuously which simply means you cannot pick it up and use it like you normally do while using a wired charger.

2.Closer attention to your device

Likewise, you have to pay closer attention to charging your device with a wireless charger. It usually happens that you pick up your device quickly to answer a call or a message while your device is being charged and you do not place it back on the charging pad. In case you have put down your device inattentively or it is not perfectly placed on the charging pad, it will not be charged which can be troublesome for you.

So proper and closer attention is required while using a wireless charger (which you get used to over time).

3.Slower than the traditional wired charger

Yes, wireless chargers might be slower than a traditional wired charger and it might take about 30 to 60% more time to fully charge your device.

Also keep this thing in mind that how the device is placed on the charging pad also affects how much time it will take you to be charged. So if you have enough time for this, then you can use a wireless charger efficiently.

4.Mobility issues

When you use a corded or wired charger to get your device charged, you at least have mobility to move around according to the length of the cord. But using a wireless charger means your device has to be placed on top of the charging pad and you do not have mobility to use it. (otherwise the charging stops).

5.Pricier than wired charger

Wireless chargers are comparatively a new technology and that is why, they are relatively more expensive than wired chargers. High-quality wireless chargers can even be pricier than normal wireless chargers.

In addition to it, a compatible wireless charging feature does not come into your device inherently, you might need to buy an additional accessory i.e. an adapter or wireless charging case which enhances its price even more.

So you should also keep these factors in mind to avoid inconvenience later.

Are Wireless Chargers Worth It?

After going through the pros and cons of the wireless chargers, you cannot draw a clear line whether it is useful or completely useless to use a wireless charger to charge your device. It depends upon your personal preference on which charging method suits you the best.

For instance, in my case, I prefer a wireless charger as it gives me the convenience of charging. Besides this, I have damaged many of my wired chargers because I am habitual to use my device unintentionally while they are being charged. So either the cable of the charger or the charging port of my devices used to get damaged frequently in this way.

Furthermore, it seems like wireless chargers are going to be the future of charging technology sooner. So it is quite interesting to make a shift already in this direction. And last but not least, wireless charging not only enhances the well-being of your devices but also keeps your surroundings tidy which seems good.
